Centrifuges use the concept of centrifugal force to produce these high-g training environments. Centrifuges are a great way to simulate high-gravitational forces in a safe environment. They have been used since the beginning of human spaceflight to train astronauts for the high gravitational forces they will endure during launch and reentry sequences. High-g’s can cause loss of consciousness which is a concern in spaceflight and high-speed aircraft flight, so the centrifuge is a critical safety component of astronaut and pilot training. Space Adventures’ centrifuge in Star City is the largest in the world.
